QNAP has introduced the TS-216G, a two-bay network-attached storage device aimed at home users and small offices. The system combines a 2.5GbE network interface with an embedded neural processing unit to balance data throughput and AI-assisted workloads.
The TS-216G runs on a quad-core ARM processor clocked at 2.0 GHz with 4GB of memory. QNAP said the configuration is intended to support multitasking, media streaming and video surveillance. The built-in NPU is designed to accelerate AI tasks, including face recognition and image processing, providing hardware support for photo management applications.
| Specification | Detail |
|---|---|
| Processor | ARM quad-core, 2.0 GHz |
| Memory | 4GB |
| Network interface | 2.5GbE |
| Maximum storage capacity | 39 TB |
| AI acceleration | Built-in NPU for faster face recognition |
QNAP emphasizes ease of use and data protection in the TS-216G design. Snapshot technology is included to help defend against ransomware attacks and prevent data loss from accidental deletion. Hot-swappable drive trays allow users to perform maintenance and replace drives without interrupting system operation.
In office settings, shared folders on the device can be mapped as local drives on computers, providing access similar to an internal hard disk. Through File Station, users can manage files remotely and mount cloud storage for cross-device synchronization and centralized management.
Beyond storage, the TS-216G is positioned as a productivity tool. Mobile applications such as Qfile Pro and QuMagie Mobile allow users to back up phone photos automatically and free up space on mobile devices. The AI-driven QuMagie photo album organizes large photo libraries to improve management efficiency.
For security needs, the device can be used with QVR Elite surveillance software, which is compatible with more than 8,000 network cameras. QNAP said the combination is intended to provide professional video surveillance recording for homes and small offices.
